Blackburn Rovers and Watford plotting move for West Ham star
The winter window presents both of the play-off contenders with an excellent opportunity to bolster their teams. There is undoubtedly space for growth, even though neither team has had many problems in front of goal lately.
Both Rovers and the Hornets have taken notice of Cornet, who played for Burnley before joining West Ham.
In addition, 225 Foot claims that the 28-year-old will be called up early from his current loan with Southampton, creating a window of opportunity for the two Championship teams reportedly interested in signing him.
Shortly after leaving Turf Moor in a £17.5 million move, Cornet found himself unwelcome at the London Stadium.
Since briefly joining the Saints in the summer, he has only made two appearances and one start, and he is now expected to make transfers in consecutive windows.
There is no assurance, though, that Cornet will take out another loan.
Blackburn would like to recruit the winger on a permanent basis, but Watford is apparently only interested in keeping him through the end of the current campaign.
Cornet is said to be keen on making a move, and West Ham appear to be happy to let him go, as per 225 foot. Negotiations surrounding a move for the winger are reportedly already underway.
John Eustace and Tom Cleverly’s sides both lost key attacking talent in the summer. The league’s top goalscorer from last term, Sammie Szmodics, left Ewood Park to pursue a Premier League opportunity with Ipswich Town, netting Rovers £9 million in the process.
Meanwhile, Yaser Asprilla made the switch to Spain after spending a couple of seasons at Vicarage Road. He joined Girona in a deal worth up to €24 million (just under £20 million), who have since provided him with Champions League opportunities, including, most recently, a starting spot against Liverpool.
We haven’t seen the best of the Ivorian international for a while now. His career in England really stagnated once he made the move to his parent club. Prior to that, though, he was a really effective winger for the Clarets.
In the 2021/22 season, Cornet netted nine times in 26 appearances, at a rate of a goal every 197 minutes, for a team that would go on to get relegated. That’s why West Ham decided to pay £17.5 million for him.
Although Cornet never played in the English second division before to rejoining the Premier League, his recent setbacks with the Saints and Irons would indicate that a decrease in level could be beneficial.
The player there is good. Watford and Blackburn obviously believe they can get that out of him once more.
