Bristol Rovers disciplinary latest ahead of Birmingham City with two players on a tightrope
Bristol Rovers will be hopeful that, with the Gas nearly to the point when it resets, they can avoid having another player receive a punishment for hitting five bookings during the forthcoming holiday season.
After receiving five yellow cards, which entails a one-game suspension in League One, Taylor Moore and Kamil Conteh have recently missed games for Rovers. This is applicable, though, to the first 19 league games of the season—the Gas have already played 18.
That means that this weekend’s trip to Birmingham City will be Rovers’ 19th of the campaign after last Saturday’s home game against Bolton Wanderers was postponed due to safety concerns amid Storm Darragh. Therefore, any bookings picked up after Saturday will contribute towards the next threshold.
Clinton Mola and Jamie Lindsay are both currently walking on a disciplinary tightrope with four league bookings each so far this term, meaning that if the left-back or midfielder were to be shown a yellow card against Birmingham this weekend, they would be suspended for the home game against Wrexham the following Saturday (December 21).
There seems to be some confusion in regards to Lindsay being on four with most statistics sites stating that the Scotsman is on three. However, he was shown a yellow card in matches against Wycombe, Huddersfield, Shrewsbury and Blackpool.
After Saturday, the next threshold will be 10 bookings picked up within 37 league games which warrants a two-game ban. Assuming that postponed matches at home to Bolton and Stockport County are rearranged for dates before, matchday 37 is currently scheduled to be the trip to Lincoln City on March 15.
Hopefully, no player will reach this stage, but if a player receives up to 15 bookings in that period, they will be suspended for three games.
Having collected six yellow cards already, Moore will certainly have to improve his disciplinary record in order to avoid said suspension, as will Conteh.
In terms of other players’ yellow card tallies, Shaq Forde is the only players on three bookings, having picked up two of those in the 1-0 defeat at Reading, while a handful are on two and one respectively.
