Tragedy as five dies in horrific multi-vehicle crash in Swaffham
Part of the A11 has reopened five hours after a lorry crashed into a verge.
Police were called to the southbound carriageway at Attleborough at 11.23am today (oct 28) following reports that a lorry had crashed into the trees within the stretch of roadworks.
The road was closed in both directions between the B1172 at Wymondham and the A47 Thickthorn Interchange for most of the day.
Police asked drivers to avoid the area. A diversion route was in place from Tuttles Lane Interchange towards B1172 through to Hethersett to the Park and Ride roundabout and on to the Thickthorn roundabout.
There were delays of nearly 20 minutes on the B1172 London Road eastbound between A11 and London Road.
An air ambulance attended but the male driver was taken to hospital by road.
An eyewitness said several trees had fallen on to the lorry.
The crash barrier was damaged, which National Highways were on scene to fix.
