A driver who admitted to killing a young woman in a Doncaster collision was sentenced to nine years in prison.
On August 2, 2022, Molly Mycroft, 21, of Ivanhoe Road, ran a red signal on Wheatley Hall Road and collided with another vehicle.
Two persons were hurt in the collision, and 20-year-old Sarah Oliver died.
Mycroft admitted to causing death by dangerous driving and critically injuring two other people, and he was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday.
CCTV footage captured the collision, in which Mycroft struck the side of a turning car and killed Ms. Oliver by exceeding the 40 mph speed limit while running a red light.
Ms. Oliver’s relatives paid their respects by stating: “She was a stunning young lady who had her entire life ahead of her.
“She died six days before her 21st birthday and while we should have been planning celebrations, we were instead planning a funeral; her life and our lives were taken away from us by selfish actions.”
According to South Yorkshire Police Sgt. John Taylor, Mycroft’s “no regard for the safety of others” made the case a “tragic one.”
“Mycroft was speeding at the time of the crash, and we know she was using her phone while driving. He urged people to think about the repercussions of their acts.
For causing death through reckless driving, Mycroft received a nine-year prison sentence. In addition, she received a concurrent term of four years in prison for inflicting injuries in the collision.
“No sentence length can bring back our Sarah,” the family of Ms. Oliver continued.

A “kind and caring” father of two who died in a Doncaster tragedy has received tributes.
On Sunday, Aiden Allen, 31, lost his life when the vehicle he was riding in veered off the road and collided with street furniture on Goodison Boulevard in Bessacarr.
The 19-year-old motorist was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, according to South Yorkshire Police.
The family of Mr. Allen said in a statement released by the force that they were “very broken” by his passing.
He had been a “loved son, brother, and uncle, and a proud dad to Tommy, age five, and James, age seven,” they said.
He spent most weekends taking the boys to football and was quite proud of their accomplishments. They added, “The boys were his world and he was theirs.”
“As his siblings, we feel as though the middle piece of the five-piece puzzle is missing.”
They declared that they would “forever miss him and cherish the time we had with him” and described Mr. Allen as “kind, caring, and extremely loyal.”
Anyone with footage or information about the event is still being urged to come forward by South Yorkshire Police.
