A warning has been issued because dog walkers believe that poison is being placed in Blaby parks.

The name of the man who died when his car left a road in Leicestershire has been released by police. On October 12, at 08:50 BST, officers were called to Hospital Lane in Blaby after finding a black Vauxhall Vectra, which was reportedly heading towards the village when it crashed. Matthew Bennett, 45, of Wigston, was the driver and was declared dead at the scene.

“Our investigation into this collision is very much ongoing, and we are still keen to speak to anyone who was in the area between 8.40am and 9.10am and may have seen the Vectra,” stated Leicestershire Police Det Sgt. Lisa Wood.

“Anyone with dashcam footage is also urged to come forward as you may have captured something useful to our investigation.”

Dog walkers worry that certain parks in Leicestershire are purposefully poisoning pets. They have warned residents to be on the lookout for bright pink pellets that resemble rat poison, which they claim have been seen in Blaby parks.

According to the Blaby District Council, there have been allegations of potential rat poison left in several local parks, including Oakfield and Bouskell Park. A spokeswoman urged people to exercise caution and stated that the authorities will be inspecting the sites and alerting the local parish councils to the problem.

On a local Facebook page, a worried homeowner reported that their dog got sick after strolling along Countesthorpe Way to Oakfield Park. They claimed to have observed a “bright pink rat poison like substance” and that they had to take their pet to the veterinarian immediately. Fortunately, their dog was unharmed, the posting said.

“We have received reports of what is allegedly rat poison dumped in a number of parks, including Bouskell Park and Oakfield,” a Blaby District Council official stated. We will investigate the reports and inspect the places where we own and operate parks because this may endanger other animals.

“We are also contacting the Parish Councils involved who manage the other parks to alert them and advise they also be vigilant and take action if anything is found.”
