Tributes to mother and four children who died in Sheffield fatal crash

Father of two Christian Marriott was identified as the guy who perished in Sheffield after a car struck a crowd of people.

The 46-year-old stopped to assist a woman who was unconscious in the street on Saturday evening when he was out for a stroll with his wife and two small boys.

According to South Yorkshire Police, the woman is thought to have been a part of a group disturbance that was connected to a wedding celebration.

A car then struck Mr. Marriott and many other people, including an off-duty midwife who had also stopped to assist, as he was tending to the woman.

A 23-year-old male and a 55-year-old man have been taken into custody after the incident in College Close, Burngreave, on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, respectively, according to the police.

One of the collision victims is in critical condition at the hospital.

Honors are being given to Mr. Marriott, a churchgoer who also works for the nonprofit organization Community Money Advice (CMA).

He also worked as a volunteer at a Sheffield food bank.

In a statement, the Christian organization ChristCentral said that everyone was “deeply shocked” by his passing.

The statement read, “Chris died doing what so many will remember him for: helping others.” “As he was administering first aid to an unconscious woman who was laying in the street, a car struck Chris, the woman, and other people.

Our condolences and best wishes are clearly with his wife and their two small boys.

“We are devastated for the family and find this to be an incredibly terrible scenario.

“Please pray for them, for Chris’ wider family and friends, and for City Church Sheffield as they try to process this loss.”

After a fight at the groom’s house, a neighbor informed the Daily Mail that the brawl started because of a wedding celebration nearby.

The bridegroom’s father’s brother-in-law, Shazia Bi, told the newspaper: “It was a happy occasion but it turned into a bloodbath.” It was startling.

“An innocent man who wasn’t a member of either family but had been trying to help and calm the situation sadly lost his life.”

Several individuals were hurt during the street battle, according to witness Tarek Nayli, 49, who also heard from neighbors that more people were trapped beneath a car.

“I heard a lot of sound, a lot of voices, and a lot of shouting,” Mr. Nayli stated.

“When I emerged, I saw a crowd of people congregating and fighting. One man’s face was heavily bloodied.”

“This is an absolutely heartbreaking case in which a Good Samaritan, who had stepped in to help a stranger in their time of need, has lost his life,” said Senior Investigating Officer DCI Andrew Knowles.

“Chris leaves behind two young sons and his distraught wife, making up a wonderful family. After this terrible incident, we are utterly committed to ensuring that Chris and his loved ones receive justice.”

The lady who Mr. Marriott was assisting is still critically ill in the hospital.
