New updates as road close after horrific incident in A55

A crash on the A55 in Flintshire caused major delays. Emergency services were at the scene of the collision eastbound, near Holywell, which shut the carriageway.

A statement by the Inrix traffic monitoring service said: “A55 North Wales Expressway Eastbound closed, queueing traffic due to accident at J32 A5026 (Holywell). One lane is also closed on the westbound carriageway.”

Lane one was blocked and congestion was very heavy in the area for a couple of hours.

Motorists took to social media to state that the incident involved three vehicles and traffic was at a “standstill”.

At 10.30am, Traffic Wales issued an update to state that the crash has been cleared.

An air ambulance was called after a “serious” crash on a major north Wales road which caused 30-minute tailbacks. Emergency services were called to a crash at the junction of the A55 and A494 at Ewloe, Flintshire on Tuesday, September 24.

The incident affected all traffic into north Wales as it required the A55 to be closed, with a stretch still shut at the time of writing. For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter.

Traffic Wales announced that the A55 at Ewloe and the A494 would be closed following a “serious” crash shortly after 5pm on Tuesday. The nature of any potential casualties has not yet been confirmed.
