Swindon Town’s academy manager Alex Pike will leave the club to take up a new role after six years of involvement with the academy, as reported by the Swindon Advertiser.
Pike, who was named academy manager at the beginning of the previous campaign, is leaving the organization after leading the club’s development system through a prosperous time. His departure signifies the end of his lengthy tenure at Swindon Town, where he served in a number of capacities, most notably as the lead coach for the Foundation Phase for four years prior to taking on the role of academy manager.
The team’s U18s produced a noteworthy run to the FA Youth Cup quarterfinals last season under Pike’s leadership. Under his direction, a number of young players have also found their way into the first team, including Joel McGregor, Redman Evans, Jaxon Brown, and Sonny Hart, demonstrating the advancements achieved in the academy throughout his tenure.
Pike was proud of the academy’s growth as he thought back on his departure, saying, “It has been incredible to represent my home club for several years within the academy.” We are all really pleased of the care and creativity of the team that has gone into making the program grow so much over the previous several seasons.
He then on, “I want to express my gratitude to everyone who helped me during my time at the club and I hope the best for everyone in the future.”
In a statement posted on their website, the Robins’ management also recognized Pike’s achievements, thanking him for his “several years of work” and wished him luck in his future endeavors.
The team is currently aggressively looking for Pike’s replacement, and Jamie Russell, the head of football, has confirmed that the hiring process is in motion. Although Pike’s departure leaves a void in the academy, the advancement of young players and the development mechanisms he assisted in putting in place will bear witness to his influence for years to come.
