Youngster dies in collision following pursuit by Swindon police
A teenage boy has died in an accident which happened when the Vauxhall Astra he was in was being pursued by police.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 23.00 GMT on the Commonhead roundabout in Swindon, close to Junction 15 of the M4.
Three further Astra passengers were taken into custody after suffering minor injuries.
It has been reported by Wiltshire Police to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Although official identification has not yet occurred, the force said that the youngster passed away at the scene.
It added in a statement: “Following initial enquiries, a male in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. “Two other people, both in their 20s and female, were detained on suspicion of stealing a car without permission.
“All three remain in custody at this time.”
According to Wiltshire Police, the M4 eastbound exit slip way for J15 and the southbound A419 from the Commonhead roundabout to the M4 are still closed.
“These will likely be closed for much of the day so we would ask all motorists to use alternative routes where possible,” the force added.
A lady has admitted to driving without a license and is charged with driving recklessly and killing a boy.
On November 25, 2022, Harry Parker, 14, was hit outside the Nova Hood Academy on Akers Way in Swindon, Wiltshire. He later passed away from his injuries.
At Swindon Crown Court earlier, 52-year-old Ivy Mwangi reaffirmed her not guilty plea to driving carelessly and causing Harry’s death.
The date of the trial is February 24, 2025. On June 27, the case of driving without insurance against her will also be considered. The court granted Ms. Mwangi unrestricted bail.
