Austrian-born Martin Mittmansgruber appeared at Letterkenny District Court in County Donegal to answer to a driving-related charge. It comes after an event on Sunday morning last where a woman lost her life in a two-car collision.

On August 25, 2024, at Inver Glebe, Inver, County Donegal, Mittmansgruber is accused of driving a vehicle in a way (including speed) that, in light of all the relevant circumstances (such as the vehicle’s condition, the nature, condition, and use of the location in which it is driven, and the volume of traffic that was or might have been present at the time),

The Road Traffic Act of 2011’s Sections 53 (1) and 53 (2) are violated by the charge. During his brief appearance, the fifty-year-old accused man remained silent and was provided with a German interpreter.

Police In court, Sergeant Oliver Devenney stated that he charged Mittmansgruber at 6:23 p.m. on August 28 after making an arrest at 4:20 p.m. yesterday. In response, Mittmansgruber said, “I have nothing to add.” In addition, Sergeant Devenney stated that since the accused does not reside in the jurisdiction, there was a theoretical impediment to bail.

But he went on to say that if the accused was given tight terms in exchange for being granted bail, the state might be led. These include the accused’s personal appearance in court, their good behavior, and their continued availability by phone and email.

Additionally, a payment of €6,000 was submitted to the court on behalf of the defendant, whose address is 24A Arnberg, Wartberg, Austria. The Director of Public Prosecutions has also informed the court that additional charges are under consideration. Mr. Gerry McGovern, the accused’s attorney, requested that the case be postponed until November 6 in Donegal Town.

Judge Ciaran Liddy granted the request and approved the accused’s bail requirements. Mittmansgruber’s court appearance comes after a collision that left a woman critically hurt. Elizabeth Cave, an 87-year-old resident of Donegal Town’s St Ernan’s, was taken to Sligo University Hospital in an attempt to save her life. But she died this afternoon yesterday.
