Serious catastrophe as person die on railway

Last night there was a fatality on the railway between Preston and Lytham.

At approximately ten o’clock on Sunday night, a train headed towards Lytham struck the casualty, prompting emergency personnel to be dispatched to the line near Kirkham.

At Kirkham and Wesham station, the 9.49pm service stopped and the passengers were sent back to Preston, where a substitute bus service was offered.

Train personnel reportedly informed passengers about the death and the cause for the return trip to Preston station.

A spokesman for the Friends of St Annes Station confirmed the fatality yesterday night, stating: “A person hit by a train has caused the 21:49 service from Preston to terminate at Kirkham & Wesham and to be cancelled between Kirkham & Wesham and Blackpool South.” We are unaware of any other information.

“All services have been reduced. There are buses that run at all stops from Preston to Blackpool South at 22.50 and from Blackpool South to Preston at 00.10.

We contacted British Transport Police to get their opinion.
