One person dead and 11 injured after Stagecoach double decker bus collision

ONE person has been killed and two others are in a critical condition after a crash between a bus and 4×4 vehicle in North Ayrshire.

Following the event at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Monday, a big incident was reported.

Nine people were either treated at the site or transported to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock for observation. One person was confirmed dead at the scene, two were moved to a hospital in Glasgow.

Six fire engines, two helicopters, and an air ambulance responded to the collision on the A78 between Ardrossan and Seamill.

According to eyewitness accounts, the impact of the collision tore off the bus’s front.

According to a spokesperson for Police Scotland: “On the A78, north of Ardrossan, near the Rowan Tree restaurant, there was a significant road traffic collision involving a service bus and a 4×4 vehicle. Police and emergency services reacted to the reports.

“One person was declared deceased on the spot, and two others were flown and transported by road ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

“Nine others have been treated at the scene or transferred to Crosshouse Hospital for observations.”

While emergency personnel, including an air ambulance, came to the scene, the road was stopped in both directions.

The bus had been in route to Ayr from Greenock, Inverclyde.

“We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in a serious incident this afternoon on the A78 near Ardrossan,” a representative for the bus’ operator, Stagecoach, stated. The service in question was the Greenock to Ayr Service 585.

Our initial concerns are for the people impacted by this occurrence. Our top priority is ensuring the safety of our employees and passengers, and we are offering the authorities our full cooperation as they investigate the situation.”
