Done deal, Swindon Town To Clinch Signing Of Highly Contested Forward

Swindon Town are set to complete the signing of a highly sought-after forward, before Friday’s deadline after having a deal accepted.

Crewe Alexandra held Mark Kennedy’s team to a goalless draw over the weekend, and they have yet to win a game this season after losing to Walsall and Crawley Town (EFL Cup).

Additionally, the team has only scored one league goal all season, sharing it with Salford and Tranmere, while Morecambe and Crewe Alexandra have yet to score.

Having had a bid accepted ahead of the deadline later this week, Swindon Town’s interest for the midfielder is likely motivated primarily by a lack of goals.

Journalist Charlie McLellan revealed that Swindon Town has emerged victorious in the competition to sign Kabongo Tshimanga, the striker for Peterborough United, on a season-long loan.

Two National League teams expressed interest in the forward and made offers for the lucky charm, but they were unable to convince Tshimanga to move down to the fifth division.

Tshimanga only had eyes on Swindon Town, not the National League, as McLellan has also revealed.

The 27-year-old spent the first part of the 2023–24 season on loan at Fleetwood Town, where he made 24 appearances across all third-tier competitions and netted two goals.

He was brought back by Peterborough United in January, but he was soon loaned out to Boreham Wood, a National League team at the time, where he found his scoring form again.

Tshimanga made 16 appearances for Boreham Wood under Luke Garrard, scoring seven goals, but he was unable to maintain the team in the league. As a result, following a tie with Ebbsfleet United on the last day of the season, the team was relegated.

Tshimanga scored a lot of goals in the National League with Chesterfield and Boreham Wood, but he struggled to score in League One against Fleetwood Town and Peterborough United.

Therefore, Tshimanga’s transfer might go either way because League Two is a compromise between the two levels in issue.

Despite his struggles in League One, he has demonstrated his ability to find the back of the net by averaging nearly one goal in every two games with Boreham Wood last season.

Tshimanga could be able to establish himself in the EFL with a move under Mark Kennedy, as Swindon demonstrated with Jake Young the previous season that they know how to get the most out of some of their loan players.
