Thirty people have died this week as a result of flooding in Bangladesh’s eastern region and northeastern India, according to officials.

While the rain stopped in many places of Bangladesh on Friday, Dhaka weather officials noted that the floods would still persist for several days. The waters had begun to recede in several locations.

Eight more persons in India’s Tripura state passed away in the last day, bringing the total number of fatalities since Monday to 19, according to a state emergency management official.

Seven more deaths have occurred in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, according to Ekhon TV, based in Dhaka. Four fatalities were earlier recorded in surging rivers that were flowing downstream from India during the country’s eastern region’s nonstop rain.

According to a statement from the non-governmental organization BRAC in Bangladesh, up to three million people were still stuck as rapidly rising water flooded large tracts of farmland, destroying houses, crops, and means of subsistence. Many people, it added, were still without food, water, or electricity.

According to some media sources, the 170 million-person delta nation may have up to 4.5 million affected citizens.

Numerous nonprofit organizations have made requests for assistance; at Dhaka University in the country’s capital, a student organization is gathering dry food, cash, water, and medications.

Authorities in Tripura said that approximately 100,000 people sought refuge in over 400 rescue shelters, with the floods impacting 1.7 million people across eight districts within the state. To evaluate the situation, Chief Minister Manik Saha conducted an airborne assessment.
