‘Haven’t Offered Enough’ – Swindon Town Striker Pursuit

Over the summer, Swindon Town pursued Peterborough forward Kabongo Tshimanga in an attempt to get a loan agreement.

Mark Kennedy, who sees the player as the ideal option to add goals to his Robins team, is a big fan of the player and has him on the transfer list at London Road. Although they might not be interested in making a long-term purchase, Peterborough has turned down a loan offer.

Posh supremo Darragh MacAnthony has now acknowledged that they have rejected Swindon’s approach via his Hard Truths podcast, and in typical MacAnthony fashion, he has provided an explanation for their decision. He revealed that although Swindon attempted to get the 27-year-old on a loan, they only offered to pay for 32% of his present pay.

“We have a clear position with Kabongo,” MacAnthony declared. The amount we are requesting is less than what we paid for him, and we have accepted offers from two clubs. Swindon and the Scottish team haven’t made enough of an offer.

We are attempting to act in the player’s and our club’s best interests. After scoring 30 goals in a season in the National League, he ought to be promoted back to the league.

Swindon’s offer, according to MacAnthony, was ridiculous, and the Scottish club stayed anonymous. The Daily Record, however, said that Partick Thistle, of the Championship, is interested in the striker.

Tshimanga did not score for his parent club despite progressing through the MK Dons junior system. Before being released, he spent multiple stints on loan at teams like Aldershot, Chelmsford, Corby, Nuneaton, and Chesham. Before moving to Oxford City, he played for Boston United of Lincolnshire, where he scored 12 goals in 38 games.

With Oxford, he scored 37 goals in just 54 games before going on to score an incredible 41 goals in 88 games with Boreham Wood. Chesterfield followed, scoring 33 more goals in 53 games, which led Peterborough to sign him in 2022.

He hasn’t scored any goals and has played in few games at London Road, but he did score his first goals in the EFL last season, twice for Fleetwood Town—albeit in the EFL Trophy.

Tshimanga seems to score goals, but similar to Ricky Miller, another Posh transfer from the non-league, showing up has proven to be a challenge. Since the striker has never scored a goal in the Football League, Swindon would be taking a chance on him, therefore their calculated offer might not be as ridiculous as it sounds.

At this point in the season, the Peterborough campaign machine is always in full swing, and we’ve seen MacAnthony exaggerate the player’s worth every year with a variety of players. His actual worth is undoubtedly less than what they paid for him because, as is true, he flopped in League One and floppers don’t gain value.

If the Jags can find the proper money for him, moving to Scotland might be the best option. With a diverse mix of teams and players from the English ranks, the Scottish Championship may provide Tshimanga with a fresh setting in which to flourish.
