A police officer in Sutton is seen on camera “violently bundled” into a patrol car by a young man. The footage has gone viral.
Nottinghamshire Police has stated that an investigation into the officer’s actions has been opened in response to public complaints following Wednesday’s (June 30) incident on Outram Street.

An Ashfield district councillor and the enraged family of 32-year-old Jackson Tideswell, who can be seen in the video being arrested on suspicion of being intoxicated and unruly, are now want an explanation from the police.

Startled David Tideswell, 38, of Kirkby, told Chad that his brother, who suffers from autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), was celebrating England’s victory over Germany in the 2020 Euro 2020 by going to buy beer with pals when the event occurred.

“Despite being inebriated from drinking, Jackson did not have any cans with him.” David, a caregiver, stated, “He was acting erratic and made a motion like he was going to jump in front of a police car.

You can hear him apologize right away on the video. As a family, we are heartbroken and extremely concerned about how he was treated. Although he can be a bit of a Jack-the-lad, that doesn’t imply it was his fault. As you can see, he offers no resistance in the video.

“I visited the Kirkby police station. We mentioned his mental health issues and expressed our concerns for his security. We feared he might have suffered brain damage. He was on a half-hour observation, so they wouldn’t let us see him.

We were concerned that, had he been intoxicated, they might not have discovered his concussion. We were curious if he had received any medical attention. We couldn’t see him for six hours, according to them. We finally got him around ten o’clock at night.

According to David, his brother was shoved into the car and sustained a “sore” eye and a “bump” to his head, leaving him “very shaken” by the ordeal.

The county’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Caroline Henry, and Chief Constable Craig Guidford have received a letter from Sutton Central and New Cross ward member Coun David Hennigan requesting an immediate investigation into the event.

“I hope the police have an adequate explanation for this,” Councilman Hennigan stated. It is essential that the public has faith in the police to apprehend offenders with a reasonable amount of force.

A representative for Nottinghamshire Police has confirmed that the Professional Standards Directorate has been notified of the incident.

“We are aware of footage circulating on social media that depicts an officer arresting a suspect in Sutton,” a force official stated.

Following an officer’s requirement to stop while operating a blue light, a man was taken into custody on suspicion of intoxication and disorderliness.

“The issue has been brought to our Professional Standards Directorate in response to public complaints, and they will be undertaking a thorough investigation into the complete circumstances of what transpired.

“We can’t comment on the matter further until that investigation is finished.”
