Woman cut out of car after crash near Newport

Police were searching for a man who “ran off from the scene” after a two-vehicle collision near Newport on Thursday afternoon.

At about 1.20 pm, traffic began to back up on the A41 at Chetwynd, which is just north of Newport, as a result of the collision.

Numerous police cars and fire engines were seen racing to the scene, according to witnesses.

According to the Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service, two vehicles were involved in the incident that the personnel were responding to.

The headline read: “Two-vehicle road traffic collision, crews using Holmatro cutting equipment to release one casualty.”

The woman who was freed from the automobile was given over to the West Midlands Ambulance Service, the service subsequently stated on Twitter.

West Mercia Police stated: “We were called to a two-car collision on the A41 at Chetwynd at approximately 1:15 p.m.

“The driver of one of the vehicles (a man in his 40s) involved has ran off from the scene of the collision,” stated the statement.

“There is currently a full road closure in place.”

“We were called at about 1.15pm to reports of an RTC on Chester Road near Chetwynd, Newport,” the West Midlands Ambulance Service stated.

“Three automobiles had been engaged in a collision when crews from Tatenhill’s Midlands Air Ambulance, an ambulance, and two paramedic officers arrived at the site.

“After treating a female patient for injuries that were not thought to be significant, ambulance personnel transported her to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for additional care via land ambulance, which was accompanied by the air ambulance crew.

“Two other patients were assessed by medical staff but were not injured and were discharged at the scene.”
