As the summer transfer window closes, Lincoln City is reportedly “keeping an eye” on a SkyBet Championship midfielder.
Alan Nixon has stated that the Imps are keeping an eye on Callum Wright’s future at Plymouth Argyle (via his paywalled Patreon account). If it appears that the former Leicester City player is not a major component of new Plymouth manager Wayne Rooney’s plans, City are getting ready to make a bid for him.
Nixon’s comments coincide with the admission made by Lincoln City manager Michael Skubala earlier in the day that LNER Stadium administrators are “still looking” and “still working” on a transfer.
After his club’s defeat at the hands of Barnsley, he commented to writer Michael Hortin of BBC Radio Lincolnshire: “I think we can see that we still need some depth to the team.” But let’s wait and see.
Wright did start for Plymouth in their Carabao Cup triumph against Cheltenham Town, but he hasn’t started any of their first two Championship games. Since taking over as manager of the team this summer, former Manchester United and Everton great Wayne Rooney appears to still be deciding who should start in the starting lineup.
24 year old Wright left fellow seasiders Blackpool in January 2023 to join Argyle. Earlier in his career, he was a member of the Blackburn Rovers academy before moving to the Leicester City youth ranks.
He has played for Plymouth for over 50 games, including League One. Wright also participated in 34 games in the third tier while on loan with Cheltenham Town.
Michael Skubala has acknowledged that Lincoln City’s team needs more depth, and Callum Wright would provide that. The park’s center, in my opinion, is not the place that has to be included.
The League One team’s midfield, which has seen significant change this summer, is undoubtedly the most crowded section of the game. Before the summer transfer window closes at the end of the month, I think Lincoln has to add a little more talent in the offensive and defensive departments due to Tyler Walker’s injury.
