Wakefield Trinity pursues the young potential of the London Broncos

Wakefield has scheduled their newest member for 2025.

Wakefield Trinity is focusing on Josh Rourke, the fullback for the London Broncos. As they try to assemble their 2025 roster, Rugby League Live can disclose that the Championship table-toppers have made the 24-year-old their most recent transfer target.

Despite injuring his leg in the preseason, Rourke has made a significant impact for the Broncos in his first Super League season. Since making his debut in July, he has gained a large following by scoring five tries in six games.

Rourke is a player Wakefield has identified as having the ability to compete with Max Jowitt for fullback spots while still showing room for improvement. Going into next year, they are regarded as the clear favorites to get his signature.

His career began at Salford, and in 2022 he made his Super League debut. After that, in 2023, he joined Whitehaven and went on to score 11 tries in 28 games, which earned him a transfer to the Batley Bulldogs. But after being promoted to the Super League, London took action, and the West Yorkshire team did not obstruct his ambitions to play in the top division.

The Broncos, who seem certain to lose Oli Leyland, have suffered yet another setback. As per the Warrington Guardian, the Wire are leading the chase for the teenage playmaker, after Rugby League Live revealed last week that he was drawing attention. Next year, Bill Leyland is committed to Hull KR as well.

In the meantime, Wakefield, who are predicted to return to the Super League the following season, has already added a number of noteworthy players, including Catalans Dragons’ Mike McMeeken and Tom Johnstone.
