Dundee boss reveals plan to build on fan feelgood factor ahead of derby Premiership

The Dark Blues head to rivals Dundee United on Sunday to get their league campaign under way.

According to manager Tony Docherty, Dundee want to strengthen their bond with their fan base this season.

In the short term, a victory in Sunday’s derby would accomplish precisely that.

However, in the long run, the Dens manager believes that any success is mostly dependent on the relationship between the squad and the fans.

Docherty hopes to build on his debut season on the field. However, there are other factors to take into account before the Premiership begins this weekend.

“We have season-long goals,” Docherty declared.

Two cup competitions are taking place. Both in them and in the league, we want to perform well.

“Securing our Premiership status is our primary goal, along with strengthening our bond with the fan base.”

That accounted for a sizable portion of last year.

“We want to strengthen the bond between the team and the fans, and the players we have brought in will thrill the fans.”

Docherty also states that in an effort to start the season with a significant victory, both his players and staff will “embrace” every aspect of the derby.

“There’s a genuine buzz,” he continued.

“Having spent the last 20 years living in the city, I am familiar with its vibe.

The return of the rivalry is fantastic news for Dundee and Scottish football alike.

Because we have had such a successful league cup season, there is a buzz.

“It consists of two prestigious football clubs, each with a long history.

“A few weeks ago, while the Euros were on, I was driving to work and everyone was talking about how the Scottish derby was the first game.

“We will welcome the massive exposure that it also brings.”
