AFC Wimbledon boss assesses loan signing of Crystal Palace goalkeeper

Johnnie Jackson, the manager of AFC Wimbledon, wants to see goalkeeper Owen Goodman of Crystal Palace succeed in his second loan out of Selhurst Park.

Goodman signed a season-long loan agreement with the Dons.

Following a summer makeover, former Charlton stopper Lewis Ward and ex-Colchester loanee Goodman comprise the goalie department.

After a deal for Goodman was finalized, Jackson commented, “I was especially pleased for Bayzo [goalkeeper coach Ashley Bayes] – it’s been difficult for him.”

Owen has been coming in, as we have known, but we have to wait for that one.

“It wasn’t meant to be; ideally, he would have traveled to Spain with us to join the group sooner.

“Having him in is a positive thing. We’re enthusiastic about

“He performed admirably for Colchester last season. This is his second loan, which is good. He’s had that experience and it’s time for a new challenge to kick on. Working with Bayzo and us, we feel like we can help him do that.” Goodman gave up 65 goals in his first loan out of Selhurst Park. Palace turned down a loan offer from AFC Wimbledon boss assesses loan signing of Crystal Palace goalkeeper, the League Two play-off winners, last January in order to keep Goodman with the U’s because he was being regularly tested. “You players and goalkeepers, whenever you play them, make mistakes,” continued Jackson. “That happens. He kept Colchester in a number of games I felt with the saves he made, the way he commanded his box and how proactive and athletic

“You understand that inexperienced players make mistakes, which is why Crystal Palace sent him on loan to gain that experience.”

Knowing that a goalie at the level has already had a loan gives me a lot more confidence.

“He is aware of the appearance of the league.

“If you watched the Euros, you could still see elite players making mistakes. He is able to keep up with us and be reliable.

He and Wardy must battle it out. He’s a capable goalie as well, so we now have strong competition from those two.
