Leeds United saga ends as Championship rivals sign young star for significant fee

A player labelled “one of the brightest prospects in the EFL” has signed for one of Leeds United’s Championship rivals.

Young left back Harrison Burrows has completed a switch to one of Leeds United’s Championship rivals from Peterborough United, ending a short Whites saga.

Chairman of Peterborough Darragh MacAnthony had stated that five Championship clubs had made bids and that a couple had been approved, implying that Leeds was one of several clubs interested in Burrows.

However, the YEP is aware that Leeds was not among the teams whose bid was accepted, and the 22-year-old defender has already signed a four-year contract to play for Championship rival Sheffield United for a “significant, undisclosed fee.”

Burrows was praised by the Blades as “one of the brightest prospects in the EFL” when the move was announced.

With 58 appearances in all competitions, 12 goals, and 18 assists, the left back led Peterborough to the League One play-off semifinals the previous season.

“When we signed Kieffer (Moore), I spoke about persistence and patience from all parties in getting the deal done, and exactly the same can be said for Harrison’s move to Bramall Lane,” Blades manager Chris Wilder stated on the team’s official website.

“I believe it’s a big check in the box for us as a club that Harrison has decided that coming here is the ideal place for him to pursue his future, given his performances over the last couple of seasons.

“His ability to remain composed and patient while waiting for everything to fall into place has highlighted his desire to come and play here. Although he has waited, and we are happy to get this one over the finish line, I’m sure there were moments when he could have moved elsewhere and there would have been plenty of interest. The fact that he’s been content to wait it out says volumes about what he thinks of this football team, in my opinion.

“His adaptability is one of his several important qualities. We will have choices in a lot of positions with his arrival, which will only help us during a competitive Championship season.

“He’s another young lad who has the ability to improve on what has been an excellent start to his professional career, and we, as a staff, are really excited to be working with him.”

“I’m buzzing to get it done now, but it’s been a while in the making,” Burrows continued. Since starting to train again with Peterborough, I’ve just tried to focus on doing the right things in the preseason, and I’m happy to be here.

“I’ve got the guys to know, and they’ve been fantastic with me, but it’s time to show everyone what I can do on the pitch. I’m thankful for the opportunity I’ve been given by Peterborough, a club that holds great significance for me, and I’ve had a few successful seasons there, but it’s time for me to move forward.

“Last season was fantastic for me personally and as a team; I relished the responsibility and learned a lot about myself. Despite having played a lot of games for my age, I was honored to be named captain since I like to set an example for others.

“Last season, I found my best position and really enjoyed it. I also took my chances and scored a lot of goals.””It was a no-brainer for me, really, considering the club’s size, the management, and the players who have already joined this summer. I know what the manager expects from me, and I’m looking forward to the kinds of games I’ll be participating in. The atmosphere at Bramall Lane is the finest I’ve experienced during the Championship.”
