Red Raiders’ Leading Scorer Suspended Indefinitely After Academic Scandal…see more…

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Texas Tech Red Raiders men’s basketball program was rocked Thursday evening when the university announced that junior guard Malik Turner, the team’s leading scorer, has been suspended indefinitely following revelations of an academic integrity scandal.

According to sources close to the athletic department, an internal investigation uncovered that Turner submitted multiple assignments completed by a hired third party over the past semester. The university’s Office of Student Conduct has launched a formal review, and Turner has been barred from all team activities pending the outcome.

Turner, who was averaging 21.4 points per game and was widely considered a Big 12 Player of the Year contender, has been central to the Red Raiders’ success this season. Head coach Mark Adams addressed the media Thursday night, saying, “We are deeply disappointed. Malik is a talented young man, but academics come first. We will fully cooperate with the university’s process.”

The Red Raiders, currently 18–6 and in contention for a strong NCAA tournament seed, now face a crucial stretch of the season without their star. Turner has yet to release a public statement, and it remains unclear if he will be eligible to return before the end of the season.
