Carnival Cruise Line executives have issued a formal statement following a serious accident aboard the Carnival Liberty on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. local time as the vessel was sailing near the coast of Key West, Florida, during a seven-day Caribbean itinerary.
According to initial reports, a mechanical malfunction led to a sudden jolt on board, causing several passengers to fall and sustain injuries. Emergency crews responded quickly, and the ship’s medical team treated at least 12 guests for minor to moderate injuries. Two passengers were airlifted to a nearby hospital for further evaluation as a precaution.
Carnival Cruise Line, one of the world’s largest cruise operators, confirmed the accident and emphasized that passenger safety remains their highest priority. “We are fully cooperating with maritime authorities and have launched an internal investigation to determine the exact cause,” said a spokesperson for Carnival.
The Carnival Liberty remains operational but has adjusted its itinerary to accommodate the investigation and ensure full safety inspections. Officials assured all guests that additional safety measures are being implemented immediately. Passengers affected by the incident will receive support, including medical assistance and compensation.
