BREAKING NEWS: Cruise Ship Carnival Horizon Capsizes Off Coast of Cape Verde – 1,000 Rescued, Thousands Still Missing

In a horrifying maritime tragedy, the Carnival Horizon, one of Carnival Cruise Line’s flagship vessels, capsized early this morning near the Cape Verde Islands off the West African coast. The ship, which had been carrying over 4,200 passengers and crew, was on a transatlantic voyage from Lisbon, Portugal, to Bridgetown, Barbados.

According to initial reports, the vessel encountered extreme weather conditions, including high swells and gale-force winds, which led to sudden instability. Witnesses described a violent tilt that escalated quickly, causing panic as furniture, luggage, and people were thrown across decks.

Emergency signals were sent immediately before the ship overturned. The Cape Verde Coast Guard, supported by international rescue teams and nearby cargo ships, responded swiftly. As of this report, approximately 1,000 passengers have been rescued and airlifted to the island of Sal for medical treatment. However, thousands remain unaccounted for, prompting an extensive air-and-sea search operation.

Carnival Cruise Line has expressed its devastation over the event, stating: “This is an unprecedented tragedy. We are working tirelessly with local and international agencies to ensure every possible rescue effort is made.”

This disaster is one of the most serious incidents in modern cruise ship history.
