
May 18, 2025 — A Carnival cruise ship was forced to divert course on Saturday evening after a pregnant passenger suffered a medical emergency while the vessel was sailing through the Gulf of Mexico.
The incident occurred aboard the Carnival Dream, operated by Carnival Cruise Line, during its voyage from Galveston, Texas to Mahogany Bay, Honduras. According to a statement from the cruise company, the woman began experiencing severe pregnancy-related complications around 7:30 p.m., prompting the ship’s medical team to take immediate action.
The ship’s captain coordinated with the U.S. Coast Guard for an emergency medical evacuation. At approximately 9:15 p.m., a Coast Guard helicopter airlifted the woman to a medical facility in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her current condition remains undisclosed, but Carnival officials confirmed she was in stable condition at the time of transfer.
Carnival Cruise Line praised the efforts of the onboard medical team and the quick response of the Coast Guard. The Carnival Dream resumed its journey after the evacuation, though the incident caused a brief delay in its itinerary.
Passengers were informed of the diversion, and many expressed support and concern for the woman and her family.
