The incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. local time, as the Carnival Radiance was en route from Long Beach, California to Ensenada on a three-day leisure cruise.
According to preliminary reports from maritime officials and eyewitness accounts, the ship sustained structural damage after a massive whale breached and collided with the starboard side of the vessel. The unexpected impact caused widespread panic onboard, resulting in over 3,000 injuries, most of which are believed to be minor, such as falls, sprains, and bruises amid the chaos.
Carnival Cruise Line has confirmed the incident and stated that all emergency protocols were immediately activated. Medical teams onboard and from local Mexican authorities are attending to the injured. The ship is currently anchored near Ensenada, awaiting a full inspection and clearance.
