TRAGIC NEWS: Fire Erupts on Carnival Freedom Near Bahamas
In a distressing incident, the Carnival Freedom cruise ship caught fire on May 14, 2025, while sailing approximately 20 miles off Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas. The blaze originated in the ship’s exhaust funnel during a severe storm, with passengers reporting a lightning strike shortly before flames erupted. The fire caused significant damage to the funnel, with parts collapsing onto Deck 10.
Emergency protocols were swiftly enacted, and the crew managed to extinguish the fire within two hours. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew. The ship altered its course to Freeport, Bahamas, for further assessment and repairs.
This marks the second fire incident involving Carnival Freedom in less than two years; the previous occurred in May 2022 while docked at Grand Turk Island. The recurrence has raised concerns about the vessel’s safety measures and maintenance protocols.
Carnival Cruise Line has expressed deep regret over the incident and assured that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause. Passengers affected by the disruption have been offered compensation, including refunds and discounts on future cruises.
