A luxury vacation turned into a harrowing ordeal when a powerful storm struck a Carnival Cruise ship sailing through the Caribbean late Monday night. The vessel, carrying over 3,000 passengers and crew, was caught off guard by an unexpectedly intense weather system that battered the ship with 80-mph winds and towering waves.
According to eyewitness accounts, chaos erupted onboard as furniture was hurled across decks, water flooded lower levels, and terrified passengers clung to railings for safety. “It felt like the ship was going to tip over,” said Maria Lopez, a passenger from Texas. “People were screaming, praying—it was like a movie, but real.”
Emergency crews onboard responded swiftly, but at least 36 people sustained injuries ranging from minor bruises to broken bones. The ship’s captain issued a distress signal, prompting a coordinated response from the U.S. Coast Guard, which is now assisting with medical evacuations and damage assessment.
Carnival Cruise Line released a statement expressing deep regret and confirming that the safety of passengers remains their top priority. Investigations are underway into why the ship remained in the storm’s path despite advanced forecasts. The vessel is now en route to a nearby port for emergency repairs and passenger disembarkation.
