At least six people have been confirmed dead following a tragic cruise ship crash late Monday evening. The vessel, identified as the Ocean Serenity, collided with a cargo dock while attempting to maneuver into port under rough weather conditions off the coast of Naples, Italy.
Emergency responders were quick to arrive on the scene, evacuating over 2,000 passengers and crew members. Despite their efforts, six fatalities were confirmed, and several others sustained serious injuries. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause of the crash.
Captain Marco Bellini, who was in command of the ship at the time, is now under official scrutiny. Initial reports suggest that he may have ignored warnings about high winds and limited visibility. Investigators are currently reviewing the ship’s black box and navigation data.
Carnival Voyages, the cruise line operating the Ocean Serenity, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and pledged full cooperation with authorities. “We are deeply saddened by this incident and are offering support to those affected,” the company said in a statement.
The crash has raised new concerns about cruise ship safety protocols, particularly during adverse weather, and may lead to regulatory reviews in the coming weeks.
