In a devastating maritime tragedy, a cruise ship carrying approximately 4,300 passengers and crew has capsized in the early hours of the morning. The vessel, whose name has not yet been officially released, overturned while navigating rough waters off the southern coast.
Rescue operations are underway, with emergency response teams managing to save around 700 people so far. Helicopters, coast guard vessels, and nearby ships have all been deployed in a race against time to locate and retrieve remaining survivors. Officials report that high waves and challenging weather conditions are hampering the search effort.
Witnesses aboard nearby vessels described hearing distress calls and seeing lifeboats being deployed into the dark, choppy sea. “It was chaos. People were screaming and trying to help each other,” said one survivor. “It all happened so fast.”
