A 58-year-old Catholic priest has been formally charged with attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed on Friday.
He is scheduled to appear at a special sitting of Londonderry Magistrates’ Court, which will take place at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
The Diocese of Derry responded to the arrest, stating it was aware of a video circulating online that appears to show an incident involving a priest from the diocese outside a hotel in Derry city. While acknowledging the police involvement, the diocese has declined to make further comment.
The investigation remains ongoing.
