Authorities have arrested a man in connection with a bombing incident aboard a Carnival cruise ship docked in Miami, Florida. The explosion occurred late Sunday night, causing panic among passengers and crew. According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Richard Lane from Tampa, was taken into custody early Monday morning.
Investigators say the device was a homemade explosive placed near the engine room. Fortunately, the explosion caused only minor injuries to three individuals and limited structural damage to the vessel. Quick action by emergency responders and the ship’s crew prevented a larger disaster.
Carnival Cruise Line released a statement confirming the incident and assuring passengers that safety remains their top priority. The affected ship, Carnival Radiance, was preparing for a scheduled Caribbean voyage and has since been taken out of service for inspection and repairs.
Authorities are still investigating Lane’s motive, though preliminary reports suggest he may have been acting alone. Federal agents, including the FBI and Homeland Security, are involved in the ongoing investigation.
Passengers were safely evacuated and accommodated in nearby hotels. Carnival has offered full refunds and travel rescheduling for all affected guests.
More updates will follow as the investigation unfolds.
