Carnival Cruise Line has explained why some of its popular dining venues, such as Guy’s Burgers and Blue Iguana, don’t stay open late, despite passenger demand. Brand Ambassador John Heald addressed concerns on Facebook, noting that the main reason comes down to staffing limitations and crew regulations.
Heald shared that each crew member now follows strict working hours monitored by a system called “Fun Time.” While crew members used to work without fixed schedules, current rules require that hours be recorded and reported, both internally and externally. Crew members at places like Guy’s Burgers begin early, work through the day serving hundreds of meals, and then must clean and sanitize their areas after closing at 6:30 p.m.
Heald added that expanding operating hours isn’t as simple as hiring more workers. Cruise ships have limited space for crew accommodations, and every available bed is typically filled. Budget constraints also prevent adding extra staff.
So, although the cruise line would like to offer extended dining hours, it simply isn’t feasible under current limitations. Heald pushed back against criticism claiming it’s just a cost-saving tactic, emphasizing the operational realities involved
