Paul Lakin, the chief executive of Hull KR, has praised the team’s performance in the Amsterdam Challenge and stated that they will return the following year.
When Rovers traveled for their preseason game, they created history. With 2,715 spectators, it was the most attended game in Dutch history.
Importantly, the club has benefited financially from the game, and since they are well-established in the neighborhood, they now intend to deepen their ties there going ahead.
Rovers have a five-year agreement to go for a preseason game, with the possibility to go elsewhere. Lakin did, however, affirm that they would stay put for the time being.
“It’s been a great weekend for the fans who have come in on the ferries or the planes in the last 48 hours,” Lakin stated. “This is truly for the supporters; it’s an alternative method of club membership.
Building a fan base here would be good, but we’re not searching for the next Mikey Lewis.
In the end, it’s a fantastic matchday experience, and we want to contribute to its creation for both business and personal reasons.

We have a lot of sponsorship to come out here, and certain businesses have really supported us.
The plan is for this to be the first year of hopefully five. Although we’re constantly trying to upgrade, it would be inappropriate to go elsewhere the next year given the work we’ve done in the neighborhoods. So we’ll be back here next year and then we’ll move from there. We could travel to Dublin—in fact, we could go anywhere. However, I don’t want the foundation’s efforts to be forgotten. We must expand upon it.
Looking ahead, Lakin acknowledged that a squad located in the Netherlands playing in the RFL league format would be his ultimate objective.
Over 1,000 kids were tutored by the foundation last week as part of Rovers’ efforts to leave a rugby league legacy in the nation.
It would be reasonable to think that it would take a few years for it to occur, and I would be extremely proud if it did. However, the quantity of local supporters we’ve got here has been amazing, and they adore it.”
