According to reports, Sporting wants to permanently part company with Edwards, while the Eagles are hoping to sign the 26-year-old on loan with no buyout option.
Since Ruben Amorim left for Manchester United, the English winger has dropped in the hierarchy and hasn’t featured for the Portuguese powerhouses since November.
He has been left out of Sporting’s last five matchday squads and appears to have no future under manager Rui Borges, who was appointed in late December.
According to Portuguese reports, Edwards’ worth has dropped dramatically due to his absence over the past several months, and it is now thought that the 26-year-old might be available for as little as €8 million (£6.7 million).
Given his limited role, the former England U20 international, who joined Sporting from Vitoria Guimaraes in January 2022, is unlikely to sign an extension as he approaches the last 18 months of his current deal.
Palco Sports has called Edwards “electric.” This season, he has made 10 appearances for Sporting across all competitions, scoring three goals in about 350 minutes of play.

Given that Oliver Glasner has already welcomed winger Romain Esse, who scored on his Premier League debut last weekend, it is unclear if Palace will soon go further with their stated interest in the 26-year-old.
Given Chelsea’s recall of Trevoh Chalobah earlier this month, the Eagles’ priorities may be different in the final days of the January transfer window.
Journalist Michael Bridges said in an exclusive interview with GIVEMESPORT that Palace traditionally “like doing late business,” thus they might be looking to strengthen their left-back and center-back options in the coming days.
