According to a report, Sheffield Wednesday has made a loan offer for a “fantastic” Premier League defender, and his club is willing to allow him to depart before the deadline of February 3.
Wednesday has really taken off this season after barely missing out on relegation from the Championship by three points the previous season. With one game remaining before the winter transfer window ends, they are currently three points outside of the play-offs.
The Owls have had a somewhat quiet transfer window thus far, but they will be happy to have recruited Southampton’s Shea Charles on loan again after reaching a new deal with the Premier League underdogs.
Now that the deadline is less than a week away, Danny Rohl is considering adding additional players to his team.
The manager is especially interested in bolstering his defense. Vissel Kobe left-back Ryo Hatsuse has pleased Rohl, according to dependable writer Joe Crann, and there is now a desire to bring the Japanese defender to Hillsborough before the deadline.
Wednesday are yet to make a formal move for Hatsuse, whose contract expires this weekend, but The Star reports they have now made a bid to sign Ipswich Town’s Harry Clarke on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The Owls face a lot of competition for Clarke’s signature, however, with a number of other Championship clubs said to be in the race.
Although the right-back was a key player for Ipswich in their promotion to the Premier League last season, they are willing to sanction his departure to the right Championship club.
As Dominic Iorfa is set to be sidelined for the next few weeks, the 23-year-old could provide cover for Rohl at centre-back, given that he is also capable of playing in the middle.

In the coming weeks, the Ipswich man could deputise for Iorfa at centre-back, before challenging for a spot at right-wing back, given that he is also capable of playing slightly further forward.
Having experienced winning promotion with the Tractor Boys, the £25k-per-week defender could be a solid signing for the Owls as they push for the top six.
The former Arsenal player might still grow much better despite his advanced age, according to Kieran McKenna, who said as much when he initially moved to Portman Road: “He has a fantastic attitude to work, to win, and to try and get better.”
“He received a wonderful education here, and that continued when he transferred to Arsenal. He is physically fit, possesses a great right foot, and has a lot of untapped potential.
As such, it is promising news that Wednesday have now launched a formal bid for Clarke, and they will be hoping he opts to move to Hillsborough, despite widespread interest from Championship clubs.
