Compared to their performance in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with AFC Wimbledon, the Dons put on one of their poorest displays in recent memory, but they were ahead going into stoppage time thanks to Joe White’s opening goal in the 27th minute.
Although Harrogate may have deserved all three goals, Zico Asare’s goal seemed to have given them a fair share of the spoils. However, parity lasted only one minute when Alex Gilbey’s incredible goal in the 94th minute gave Dons the victory.
Lindsey was candid about his team’s poor performance in a post-match interview, stating: “It was rubbish, we didn’t play well at all, really poor.”
“You could feel their equalizer coming. And I didn’t even celebrate our winner because I was so annoyed with the performance.
” We started slowly, took too long to build, didn’t attack, and took twenty-five minutes to get anywhere near their 18-yard box. I used a few dirty words at halftime, but the players did too.
“However, it’s three points and at the moment, we probably have to take that because of the run of form. We wipe our mouths and move on, but we have to be so much better.
We looked nervy on the ball and didn’t want to run forwards. We didn’t pass forwards enough, and in the second-half we didn’t pass forwards at all. We didn’t play with any bravery. The only thing I’ll give us is that we defended a lot of balls in the box.
“On Saturday, I saw a really good performance and good spirit. We showed spirit tonight, but not the performance. And the lads know it themselves. We’re in it together, we’ve got to be so much better than that. We’ve got away with one.”

While less than 5,000 Dons fans were in attendance, they made their feelings heard during the awful second-half with boos and groans, frustration that Lindsey echoed along with them.
“I don’t blame them,” he remarked. Since I agreed with the supporters, I believe it was reasonable for them to be that way. However, we must remain united. Despite their best efforts, the players lacked the quality and courage to play forward.
“We’ll take it because I want to win, and we want to develop a winning mindset.” However, we must do more than that. We only received a point on Saturday, but we were better than that. Football is a weird game, isn’t it?
