The Championship team has been beaten back in their pursuit of the 22-year-old despite having set their eyes on expanding their alternatives in goal.
Under manager Sean Maloney, Tickle has been a constant for Wigan in League One this season.
This season, he has made 30 starts in all competitions, giving up 28 goals while recording 13 clean sheets.
The shot-stopper’s only time out of the Latics’ side has come in the EFL Trophy, where back-up Tom Watson came into the starting eleven.
Tickle is a product of the Wigan academy and made his professional debut in October 2021.
He has made 84 senior appearances for the Latics in all competitions, with League One accounting for the great majority of those appearances.
Last year (2024), the Warrington-born star agreed to a new contract with his childhood club, which is scheduled to expire in June 2028.

Tickle made his England Under-21 debut in March 2024 and kept a clean sheet in a win over Luxembourg.
Preston are currently lining up with experienced goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, 27, between the sticks.
He is set to enter the final six months of his contract at Deepdale after joining from Newcastle in 2022.
Paul Heckingbottom’s side sit 14th in the Championship table after winning their last two second-tier games.
Meanwhile, Wigan are 16th in League One under Maloney and have pulled 12 points clear of the relegation zone.
