With the new season just a few weeks away, Salford’s financial situation has dominated the news agenda over the off-season.
The tale is continuously evolving in the hopes that a buyout deal may be achieved.
After receiving a central funding advance to address financial deficiencies, the RFL put the Red Devils under special measures at the end of last year.
Following a thorough analysis of the club’s revenue and expenses, the governing board ordered the club to reduce its overhead by £800,000.
The simplest and most obvious method to do that is through player sales, and the club confirmed last week that players from their first team roster were for sale.
As a result, many teams have expressed interest in Salford players, with the majority of their well-known players being of particular interest.
Super League teams convened earlier this week to discuss the Salford Community Stadium situation, with salary caps or overseas quota dispensations being considered as potential options for teams hoping to sign Salford players in the upcoming weeks.
However, clubs have now been given a certain degree of clarity on Salford Red Devils’ situation, with a takeover seemingly making progress. Contingency planning will continue, but the RFL have now offered an update.

A short statement issued to the media, including Serious About RL, read: “Clubs have been updated on the position at Salford, including ownership progress, whilst contingency planning goes on in the background.”
Salford are due to be in action this weekend when they take on St Helens at the Totally Wicked Stadium as part of Morgan Knowles’ testimonial.
