When Davy mentioned perhaps moving to a new stadium at Huddersfield’s awards ceremony towards the end of last year, it caused quite a stir.
The idea of shifting to The Shay, the home of the Championship team Halifax Panthers, while the new facility is being constructed has gained traction while the negotiations have gone on.
Davy has now gone into additional detail about his ambitions.
Davy told The Halifax Courier, “I don’t want to be The Shay’s long-term owner.”
I have thus informed both teams that I would be willing to offer it back to them when the Giants depart The Shay, which is the ultimate goal, and they may either purchase it alone or together.
“Or we might come up with another solution, but that’s the general idea of what we’re aiming for.”
However, the precise location of the new stadium’s construction is yet unknown.
It’s impossible to predict how or where the new stadium will be because every site we consider has different problems,” he stated.
Our third or fourth pre-planning application for a site is nearly complete, and we’re crossing our fingers.
We’re optimistic that this one will succeed. I had initially hoped it would just take two or three years. All of the planning problems make it clear that it will take longer than that.
“I’m going to guess five years, but that’s just a guess.”
Davy believes that the John Smith’s Stadium isn’t the ideal venue for Huddersfield whilst the new stadium is being built.

“But it’s just not possible for us to generate the right atmosphere there,” he continued.
“There’s just not enough fans in a big stadium. The fact is we rattle.
“I want to see that improve as quickly as possible.
“And hopefully the availability of better facilities in a nice atmosphere, I genuinely believe it should increase the support of both clubs and that’s what we all want to see.
“I want The Shay to be a vibrant facility for FC Halifax, the Panthers and the Giants and for it to become a vibrant community space.
“The plan is to call it the Calderdale Community Stadium, and that’s what it’s all about, providing a better experience for everyone.”
The Giants owner does, however, recognise that it could turn some fans away.
“There is a risk and over the last few months I’ve been careful to try to explain what the intention was.
“More recently I’ve spelled it out in a bit more detail.
“There are undoubtedly some unfavorable remarks, but I’m optimistic because the great majority of Giants supporters have been encouraging.
Special transportation will be operated between Huddersfield and The Shay.
We anticipate that a small percentage of our fans will be extremely hesitant to attend The Shay.
“I actually hope the support would increase because of the better atmosphere and suitability.”
Davy said, “Absolutely and categorically, no,” indicating that he had no plans to combine the Panthers and Giants.
