It’s thought that Isaac Price is getting closer to joining West Bromwich Albion this month, making him the first player to sign under the second Tony Mowbray era.
The Everton academy produced Price, a Northern Irish international, but after just a few Premier League games, he left England for Standard Liege in the summer of 2023.
Price, a 21-year-old central midfielder with 50 league games in Belgium’s top division, made what is reportedly his last appearance for the team on Sunday when they defeated St Truiden 2-1.
Price, who was born in Pontefract, has expressed a wish to return to the United Kingdom, according to Standard manager Ivan Leko.
Price became Northern Ireland’s youngest ever player to score a hat-trick when he fired home a treble in the 5-0 Nations League win over Bulgaria at Windsor Park in October.
He also scored on his last appearance for the Green and White Army, claiming a goal and an assist in a 2-2 draw with Luxembourg.
Price’s boss at Standard, Leko, has been quoted as saying that the player is due to make for England again after becoming homesick, but he has backed Price to once again test himself in England’s top flight in the years to come. The deal is reported to be costing Albion between £1.5-2m.

“He played his best game of the season [against STVV] without a doubt, being involved in both goals,” Leko said. “I understand his departure, because he was homesick and I wish him all the best.
I will continue to follow him and I am convinced that he will play in the Premier League one day.”
Albion have midfield options Alex Mowatt, Jayson Molumby, Ousmane Diakite and Uros Racic currently, but it appears as though they’re set to add Price to Mowbray’s midfield equation as they approach the final fortnight of the transfer window looking for at least one forward in the wake of the loss of Josh Maja to a leg injury, which is due to keep him out for a couple of months.
