Following the Wanderers’ 3-1 home loss to the Central Coast Mariners, Stajcic informed media that the team had finalized an agreement for a third recruit in as many days.
Six-time Soccceroo Gersbach, who returns to Australia after nine years away from the A-League, was signed by the Wanderers on Wednesday.
Additionally, after most recently severing relations with Perth Glory, 23-year-old Carluccio returned to Western Sydney on a long-term contract.
Immediately thrust into the starting lineup for the match at CommBank Stadium, Carluccio played 72 minutes on his second debut until Juan Mata took his place.
Alou Kuol and Ryan Edmondson had given the Central Coast Mariners the lead in Western Sydney but James Temelkovski’s maiden Isuzu UTE A-League goal pulled the home team back into the match.
Mikael Doka’s incredible breakaway goal in the 94th minute, however, gave the away team the victory, dropping the Wanderers to eighth position on the ladder and three points outside the top six.
The Wanderers now have the third-worst defense in the league, giving up 26 goals in 13 games, which will worry head coach Stajcic even if they are tied for the league’s top scoring with Sydney FC (29 goals).
Furthermore, with South Korean central defence Tae-wook Jeong set to miss another month’s worth of football, Stajcic will be hoping his new recruits can help the side tighten up at the back.
When asked about Jeong’s fitness, Stajcic responded, “Look, he’s only just come back to Australia.” Jeong had been out since November due to an ankle ailment.

“I think it will take him another three or four weeks to be able to train completely.”
Stajcic acknowledged that it might be some time before supporters get to see their new left back when asked when he can anticipate Gersbach being healthy and available for selection.
It will take time because he hasn’t played or been in full training for a while. He can’t just show up and play 90 minutes right away.
“But it goes without saying that we’re excited to have him join the team and get out there.”
