The Eagles have made great progress after a poor start to the season, but they need to keep up their momentum if they hope to put a significant amount of distance between themselves and the bottom three.
Oliver Glasner and the Palace board appear to be well aware of this, and they are making moves to bolster this season by agreeing to sign a Championship starlet. Crystal Palace is getting close to signing one of the best young players in English football.
Palace are said to be closing in on a deal for Millwall’s Romain Esse, who has attracted plenty of attention with his performances this season.
Still only 19 years of age, Esse has already racked up 59 league appearances for the Lions, and former boss Neil Harris said of the winger: “Romain is a brilliant, undoubted talent that’s going to go and play in the Premier League soon.”
That prediction is set to be proven right, with Pete O’Rourke reporting: “Romain Esse is currently undergoing his medical at Crystal Palace ahead of his move from Millwall.” The fee involved in the deal is reportedly £14.5million.
It comes after current Lions boss Alex Neil called for a deal to be struck so that Millwall could plan for Esse’s replacement. Neil told the BBC: “We want it done for the lad as much as anything else, you know.
Being in limbo’s not a good situation for anyone because if it’s not going to get completed, I would be delighted for him to stay, and I’m sure everyone else at the club would be.

But if it’s going to happen, let’s get it across the line, let’s get it finalised, and we can start to plan what our next steps look like.”
It emerged last week that MLS side Atlanta United were expressing interest in Palace striker Odsonne Edouard, who is currently on loan with Leicester City and struggling to impress.
According to the Daily Mail, Atlanta have now offered £15million for Edouard, which is a deal Palace would surely jump at the chance of striking, but a deal may not be straight forward.
That’s because Atlanta are also said to be offering deals for Newcastle United’s Miguel Almiron, who was previously a fan favourite at the club, and Middlesbrough’s Emmanuel Latte Lath.
It’s unclear who their first choice is, but Palace will be hoping it is Edouard, given that deal could fund their signing of Esse.
