Russell Wilson has struggled in the last four games of the regular season, raising questions about his future with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Wilson has passed for 16 touchdowns and only five interceptions this season, completing more over 60% of his passes, but his problems have been exacerbated by the breakdown of the structure surrounding him.
So, how does Wilson’s mentality about his future in Pittsburgh stand with a playoff game at stake and an opportunity to overcome past setbacks? He is more focused on the playoff matchup with the Baltimore Ravens than he is on free agency or the impending deal.
I just always think about the moment. I’m not really worried about down the road or anything like that,”
One of the goals when Wilson was signed was that the Steelers would draw from his knowledge and be able to turn that into postseason success. Even with the collapse down the stretch, it is still in front of the Steelers.
In order to pull off an upset against the Ravens, Wilson and the other players in the locker room who have experience winning at the top levels will rely on their knowledge.
“For me, it’s being poised in those moments, looking forward to it, knowing that it’s going to be a four-quarter game, it’s going to be a battle, and we’re looking forward to the opportunity of it, and I’ve been fortunate, to hold the trophy and everything else and do some special things in the playoffs, and the moments of that,” Wilson said.
“We want to use all that experience that we have, and some of the guys in this locker room too. Guys like Van Jefferson and Ben Skowronek and guys have played at the highest level too, and moments and teams and those help.”
