Former manager Michael Beale stated that Cyriel Dessers, who joined Rangers from US Cremonese in the summer of 2023, fit a “very specific profile” and was in line with the team’s goals.
After dropping in the hierarchy at Ibrox, the Nigerian internationalist may be back on the move in 18 months.
Dessers has scored 34 goals in 84 games for Rangers, but he hasn’t played much since November as Moroccan sensation Hamza Igamane has been more successful up front in the system that manager Philippe Clement wants to use.
Now it’s suggested that Italian side Cagliari are considering another attempt to secure the services of Dessers as they navigate a challenging season in Serie A.
The Sardinia-based club has shown interest in the 30-year-old forward for some time, and Italian sources indicate that they have made three previous efforts to bring him on board.
With the January transfer window ongoing, Cagliari may be poised to make yet another move.
Dessers, who spent a year at Cremonese, where he netted seven goals in 29 appearances, is seen as a valuable addition.
According to reports, Rangers are willing to help arrange a move if a suitable offer is made for the player, which would cost them about £4.5 million.
