After making an impression at Ewood Park, Eustace is now highly sought-after in Championship circles. In just a few months, his name has been connected to the fifth vacancy.
Coventry City and Hull City reportedly gave serious consideration to making a move for the 45-year-old, while Wolves and Southampton were both speculatively mentioned as potential destinations.
After playing for Birmingham City, Eustace led and played for the Sky Blues. His family still lives in the Midlands. However, they chose Frank Lampard instead.
Hull fanned their eyelids in a similar manner but made no firm move. Instead, they chose Ruben Selles from Reading.
With Carlos Corberan’s abrupt departure, West Brom is currently looking for a new manager or head coach. Their previous four games under temporary management have resulted in five points, thanks to Chris Brunt and Boaz Myhill.
Eustace’s name has consistently been high in the bookmakers’ betting odds but those prices have shortened over the last few days. That, understandably, has left some Rovers fans concerned.
But, at the time of writing, there has been no contact from the Baggies. Eustace took training as normal on Tuesday morning and remains fully committed to Blackburn Rovers.
Raphael Wicky is the favourite for the post. He is out of work having left Swiss side Young Boys last March. Steven Schumacher, available after his exit at Stoke City, is also in the running.
Betting odds will always fluctuate based on where money is being placed and media reports. Whilst they can give a light indication of who is in the running, it is easy for them to create a false narrative.
Swansea City’s Luke Williams was heavy favourite at one stage despite there being no actual approach. He has now lengthened in odds after both he and the Baggies distanced themselves from the links.
Eustace signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Rovers after taking over from Jon Dahl Tomasson last February. By the summer, he will be entering his final 12 months.
Undoubtedly, the Rovers boss will be hoping to see signs of ambition in the transfer market in the next two windows. He has repeatedly stressed the need to ‘help’ the group with 2-3 quality additions this month.
What is clear from the last few months is that Eustace’s stock is high, even if there has been nothing concrete. Management is a cut-throat business but whilst Rovers are giving the head coach the tools he feels are needed to continue progressing, or until a much better offer actually materialises, he will remain at the club.
