When the 24-year-old defender gets to Granite City today, the Dons will be hoping to finalize the £700,000 transaction.
According to Sky Sports, Tobers has already reached a personal agreement with the Reds and will travel to Aberdeen to complete the transfer by undergoing a medical examination.
Jimmy Thelin will be hoping the paperwork is signed in time for Sunday’s match, but Tobers will have to wait for a work visa to be granted before he can play the Jambos at Pittodrie this weekend.
Due to injuries to Gavin Molloy and Jack Milne, as well as the suspension of Slobodan Rubezic following his dismissal against Motherwell, he is currently without three center backs.
It leaves Angus MacDonald as the only fit centre-half available to play, with Tobers having been made a key target to help shore up the back line.
The 24-year-old’s club, Swiss side Grasshoppers, sanctioned the move after the Dons made an improved bid for the centre-half, with personal terms also agreed.
It had been reported the deal would be worth £800,000, but The Press and Journal understands Aberdeen will pay Grasshoppers closer to £600k for Tobers, spread over multiple instalments.
Tobers will undergo his medical at Cormack Park before his official unveiling as Reds boss Jimmy Thelin’s second winter window signing.
On Monday, Aberdeen – now in the midst of a 10-game winless tailspin following a blistering start to the season under recently-appointed boss Thelin – completed the signing of the gaffer’s former Elfsborg winger Jeppe Okkels, in a loan-with-option-to-buy deal from English Championship Preston North End.
The Dons have also been linked to utility player Alexander Jensen from Swedish outfit Brommapojkarna.
