New-boys in League Two In an attempt to go closer to a possible play-off finish this season, Bromley has set its sights on acquiring one of the National League’s best players.
With the January transfer window approaching, Andy Woodman’s team is in a strong position in the standings after halfway through their first EFL season.
Journalist Alan Nixon said that Bromley had bid £150,000 for National League star Regan Linney from Altrincham, who were vying for the playoffs.
However, this bid is likely to be rejected as Altrincham want a fee of £250,000 and will not budge on their demands.
The 27-year-old arrived at Altrincham in February 2023 from FC United of Manchester and immediately made an impression under manager Phil Parkinson.
Alongside the likes of Alex Newby and Chris Conn-Clarke, Altrincham secured a play-off place in the National League last season but were defeated in the semi-finals by eventual winners Bromley.
Following Conn-Clarke’s summer exit to Peterborough, Linney has stepped up to the place and has proven to be an adequate replacement for the playmaker.
Currently, the forward has scored 14 goals in 23 league appearances during the 2024/25 campaign, whilst providing five additional assists as Altrincham sit just four points outside of the top seven.
Linney has spent his entire career in the Non-League scene and would represent a gamble/risk for a buying EFL side as he has never featured at that particular level.
However, in the National League he has quickly proven to be one of the best strikers in the division and is currently the second-highest goalscorer behind York City’s Ollie Pearce and two ahead of Solihull Moors’ Conor Wilkinson.
Linney has scored 10 goals in eight games since the end of October, including a hat-trick against AFC Fylde and a key role in Altrincham’s comeback from a 3-1 deficit to draw with Solihull.
In addition to winning 5.8 duels and completing 2.1 dribbles every 90 minutes this season, Linney is now averaging one goal every 121 minutes in the National League.
With Bromley enjoying a campaign full of goals from set pieces/headers, adding a physical presence up front like Linney could provide Andy Woodman’s side with a vital asset to push further towards the playoffs.
