During the first half of the 2024–25 League One season, Wycombe Wanderers has dominated the league, but will they be able to retain one of their pivotal players?
After the Chairboys’ Saturday draw, Birmingham City moved up to the top of League One, surpassing Wigan Athletic by three goals.
Journalist Alan Nixon claims that Preston North End, a Championship team, is the most recent team to try to sign Wycombe Wanderers defender Joe Low during the January transfer window.
However, Preston aren’t alone in their pursuit, with Swansea City already having a bid rejected for the defender.
Currently, Matt Bloomfield’s side are thoroughly involved in an ongoing battle to secure automatic promotion back to the Championship, and the loss of key players could damage their hopes.
Loanee Aaron Morley has already been recalled by Bolton Wanderers and now Low’s interest could see him depart Adams Park this month.
The 22-year-old joined from Bristol City in 2023 and is currently under contract until the end of the 2024/25 campaign, though because of his age – Wycombe would be entitled to compensation if he was to leave for free in the summer.
However, Low has been a regular starter for Wycombe Wanderers so far this season and the Chairboys themselves stand a strong chance of reaching the Championship this season, which could persuade him to remain with the League One side.

Nixon’s analysis estimated that the cost of Low’s departure might be roughly £750,000, but that might go up in a bidding war.
Wycombe will undoubtedly receive money if Low moves on this month or in the summer due to his contract predicament, but there is also a potential that he will remain.
